What is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease?

According to the Canadian Lung Association COPD is short for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. COPD is an umbrella term used to describe progressive lung diseases including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and refractory (non-reversible) asthma.
